| Raymond Downing offers a bold critique of western medicine and sees medical care as one of the fallen "principalities and powers" in need of redemption. But Downing's hope lies beyond biomedicine--in biblical healing, especially the healing miracles of Jesus. In converstation with the Bible, Ivan Illich, William Stringfellow, Susan Sontag, and others, Downing revisits how Westerners approach medicine. he sees suffering and healing as essentially spiritual experiences at the roots of death and life. | Viewing New Creations with Anabaptist Eyes investigates the
promise and perils of current genetic biotechnology. The varied authors
describe the factual bases of biotechnology in a popular format, bring
up the ethical problems that emerge, and provide ethical reasoning to
meet those challenges. An Anabaptist perspective is presented as a
visionary way to understand and navigate the maze of bioethical
dilemmas. Copyright 2005 Cascadia Publishing House | | | | Biology through the Eyes of Faith | View shopping basket | | by Richard T. Wright | |

| The Goshen Conference on Religion and Science was established as a yearly conference to explore ways of bridging the often-perceived gap between religion and science. Each year the conference features one primary speaker who presents lectures and also interacts in dialogue with conference participants. It is the intention of the conference organizers to publish a full record of the proceedings of each conference, including the more informal exchanges between presenter and participants. The first Goshen Conference on Religion and Science took place in April 2001, with Nancey Murphy as it's keynote speaker. Dr. Murphy presented three public lectures at Goshen College, dealing with human identity, the concept of a moral basis for the universe, and evolution respectively. Three discussion sessions followed the lectures. These concentrated on physicalism, the embodiment of humans, and prayer related to God's action. This volume contains the full conference proceedings, edited by Goshen College professor of physics, Carl s. Helrich. The informal, oral nature of the presentations and exchanges has been kept. Readers will find the material accessible and thought-provoking.
